Candidates wishing to be considered for potential openings that are not posted may still submit an electronic application or current resume and cover letter.  All applications and resumes are maintained in the personnel office for six (6) months for consideration as vacant positions arise. Candidates may submit updated resumes as often as they like.

When position vacancies arise, Human Resource personnel review all active applicants for minimum qualifications. Candidates who appear to meet minimum qualifications are required to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).  After receiving a minimum passing score on the TABE test and typing standards test, you will be scheduled for an initial interview where you will be scored on your responses.

Candidates who succeed in all three areas of the initial interview process may be requested to attend a second, formal interview. At the formal interview, candidates are again scored on their responses to structured interview questions.

Once candidates have been selected as potential employees, thorough background checks will be completed. Candidate information is then reviewed by the Executive Director and the Ashtabula Board of County Commissioners for final approval to hire. Once this approval is secured, candidates will be notified of a preliminary offer of employment by the Human Resource staff, and arrangements will be made for the candidate(s) to submit to drug testing and public safety statements, in accordance with the Ashtabula County Drug Free Workplace Policy and the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Employee Training
All new employees of ACJFS go through intensive, job skills training during their probation period. Training for most positions includes classroom instruction and hands-on work with a trainer and/or supervisor. During the probation period, new employees are also oriented to agency rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and environmental issues.

Training is an ongoing part of the work lives of ACJFS employees and following completion of the probation period, staff continue to enjoy regular training opportunities provided through the agency training unit.

Other Benefits
Agency employees also enjoy inclusion in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), and have access to health care benefits, vacation and sick time, paid holidays, and other county sponsored benefit programs.

Ashtabula County Job & Family Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Drug Free Workplace.
